Ponyboy has a more realistic outlook on the world. 

In page 36, ponyboy explains “Even if they did their own troubles, I really couldn’t see what Socs would have to sweat about –good grades, good cars, good girls, madras and mustangs and Corvairs-man, I thought if I had worries like that I’d consider myself lucky.” The greasers don’t have what socs have, the greasers are broke, they carry knives, and wear long leather jackets, their always smoking and drinking. They also get jumped by the socs, Every one has problems but that don’t mean you have to be pushing other around and making others feel bad on how they look and live. Cherry disagrees she thinks things are rough all over. In page     

yes the socs have problems here and there but the greasers worry about walking home alone and worry about how to defend their self's when they know they cant. The greasers have to carry a blade and I think he Socs carry a blade with them because Dally says  “And you can’t win against them no matter how hard you try, because they’ve got all the breaks and even whipping them isn’t going to change the fact.”Cherry says that “I’ll bet you think the Socs have it made. The rick kids, the West-side Socs. I’ll tell you something, Ponyboy, and it may come to you as a surprise. We have troubles you have never even heard of. You want to know something?” she looked at me straight in the eye. “Things are rough all over” page 34.  Ponyboy doesn’t know what to expect from the socs , yes they all have struggles but they greasers have it worse.
