“In the book, catching fire” there are many acts of defiance. The characters that did the defiance were katniss, cinna, peeta, and all the other tributes.

Page 242- katniss did it to “show them that she is more than apiece in their sick games.” This shows that she is not letting the gamemakers and president snow control her. Katniss knows Seneca at they died because of her actions in the arena. She is reminding snow that she beat the system last time.

Page 241-peeta painted a picture of rue’s body covered with flowers from the first game. Peeta did it to show “president snow is responsible for her death.” Peeta is blaming president snow because he decided to put harmless kids in the arena. He is reminding president snow and the gamemakers – they’re responsible for rue’s death. Snow does not want respect from the districts.

 Page 258- In the interviews, they question the legality of the games. They say snow could stop the games but he won’t. The tributes did it to show “everyone that they are all together.” The tributes are doing this as a sign of unity and to show president snow president snow that they love each other. They are blaming snow on live television. They are turning the capital citizens against president snow.

 Page 251/252- Cinna turned the wedding dress that snow picked, into a mocking jay. Cinna did it to snow president snow that the mocking jay has “come to symbolize more. Cinna wanted to show everyone that the mocking jay is still a sign of love. Cinna turned her dress into the rebellion. The dress backfired on the rebellion.

 

President Snow would feel that katniss act of defiance would be the most defiance because she hung a dummy with cinna’s name on it.
