Catching fire defiant paper

In class we are reading Catching Fire and talking about defiance. Defiance is an act that challenges power. Here are some examples

On page 236, Katniss thinks “do you have any idea how much I hate you?”. “You, Who have given your talents to the games”[to game makers]. She also hangs a dummy and writes Seneca Crane on it. This is defiant because Snow won’t ignore it and Snow killed Seneca Crane because he let Katniss and Peeta win together which he wasn’t supposed to do.

On page 256,Peeta says “Maybe I’d think that, too, Caesar if it weren’t for the baby”.Peeta announces that him and Katniss are married. He also announces Katniss is pregnant. This is defiant because it just makes people want to stop the hunger games and complain to the capitol.

On page 251,Chaff says “The president could change the quell if he wanted to, but he must not think it matters much to anyone”. This is defiant because he is trying to get Snow to stop the quell. He is also trying to get people’s sympathy.

On page 252,Cinna turns the wedding dress of Katniss for the interview into a mocking jay. I know this because Katniss says “Cinna has turned me into a mocking jay”. This is defiant because Cinna has made Katniss a mocking jay and that’s the symbol of the rebellion. He is trying to promote it and spread it around.

I feel that Cinna did the most defiant act because Katniss is also the one who caused the rebellion and the symbol is the mocking jay. So I think it is a strong defiant symbol. This will promote the rebellion and Snow will be most furious about.
