Catching Fire

These are all the acts of defiance.

In Katniss’s private session with the gamemakers, she hung a dummy with Seneca Crane’s name on it. The old game maker was killed because Katniss out smarted him. On page 242 Peeta asks “why did you hang a dummy with Seneca Crane’s name on it?”Katniss says “I don’t know. To show them that I’m more than just a piece in their games?”

In Peeta’s private session he painted a picture of Rue’s body covered in flowers from the last game. He’s reminding the game makers that they killed a little girl. He’s treating Rue w/respect & Snow doesn’t want that. On page 256, Peeta announces that she’s pregnant and that is defiant because Snow still goes on with the games.

During their interviews they talk trash about Snow & the games. They say Snow could stop the games if he really wanted to. They are turning the capital citizens against President Snow. The capital citizens are demanding change. On page 258 at the end of the interviews, all the tributes held hands. That is defiant because Snow is like what is going to happen in the arena, are they going to kill each other or not?

Cinna turns the wedding dress that snow demanded Katniss wears into a mockingjay. The mockingjay is the symbol of the rebellion. On page 253 katniss thinks,”what has he done? Something terribly dangerous. An act of rebellion in itself.” Katniss is worried because he is promoting the rebellion on national television.

The most defiant act for President Snow is when Peeta paints a picture of Rue’s body to remind Snow that they killed a little girl.
