Catching Fire

In class we are reading Catching Fire and talking about defiance. Defiance is an act that challenges power. Here are some examples.

               Katniss for her private session she hung a dummy with Seneca Cranes name on it. She is reminding the game makers of what happened last time she beat the games, showing the game makers she caused Seneca’s death. On page 236-237 Katniss hangs a dummy with Seneca cranes name on it.

               Peeta in his private session painted a picture of Rues body covered in flowers. He’s reminding the game makers that they killed the little girl. On pages 256-257” Peeta announces that he and Katniss are married and Katniss is pregnant.

               The tributes during their interviews, they talk trash about Snow and the games. They say could stop the games if he wanted to. They are turning the capitol citizens against president Snow. The capitol citizens are demanding changes. On page 251, Chaff  insists “ That president Snow  could change the quell if he wanted to, but he must not think it matters much to anyone.”

               Cinna turns the wedding dress Snow commanded Katniss into a mocking jay. He turned her into the symbol of the rebellion. He is promoting the rebel cause. On page 253, Katniss wonders, “ what has he done? Something terribly dangerous.” Katniss knows president Snow will not ignore this.

               Cinna because he turned Katniss into a mocking jay the symbol of rebellion.
