Defiance

                             Defiance

               Defiance: A daring bold resistance to authority. In the book Catching Fire there are many acts of defiance. Katniss the main character in Catching Fire is just the perfect example for it.

            During her private session katniss hanged a dummy with a specific name on it… Seneca Crane. On page 238 “The effect on the game makers is immediate and satisfying. Several let out small shrieks. Others lose their grips, which shatters musically against the ground.”  She does this because she knows as well snow that Seneca died as a result of her actions in the games. She is reminding snow that she beat the system last time.

            Yet another character of defiance is Peeta. Focusing the baby bomb. He tells the entire world that they are married and pregnant. Pg. 256 “As the bomb explodes, it sends accusations of injustice and barbarism and cruelty flying out in every direction.” By doing this he is turning the citizens against snow. He is trying to show everybody how cruel the games are.

            Another character for the books is all the tributes. They all held hands one by one some slow but still… they showed unity for the first time ever. Pg. 258 “And then it happens. Up and down the row, the victors begin to join hands… By the time the anthem plays its final strains, all 24 tributes stand in one unbroken line in what most be the first public show of unity.” Snow doesn’t want the tributes to be friends… he wants them to be enemies. But now with the capitol seeing them as humans and not competitors snow is starting to get very mad.

            But now we get to the final show. Cinna… he does something that will definitely get him killed. He turns Katniss’s wedding dress into the symbol of the rebellion… for all of panem to see. Everybody in the districts will be going crazy. Pg. 252 “Wonderingly, I lift my long, flowing sleeves into the air, and that’s when I see myself in the on TV… clothed in black except for the white patches on my sleeves… Because cinna turned me into a mocking jay.” So basically he turns the dress president snow picked and used it against him. Now snow is ready to get rid of the problem.

            I feel that President Snow hates what cinna did the most because that sets the rebellion so much higher than they were. They might even try something. Cinna will surely died .
