Defying the Capitol

 

 In the book catching fire, there are many acts of defiance. From Cinna to all the tributes. One way or another there defying the capitol, there turning the capitol against snow and making the rebellion worse.

There are many acts of defiance but I’m going to start with Katniss. So in Katniss’s private session she hangs a dummy with Seneca Cranes name on it. She did this because she knew that they killed Seneca because he let Katniss and Peeta survive instead of finding a way to kill one of them. Katniss says, “Show them I’m more than just a piece in their game.” This shows that Katniss is done playing the game makers and snows game. She is done letting them control her.

 Also Peeta painted rues body after she died when Katniss surrounded her with flowers from the first game. Peeta is reminding the capitol that is there fault and responsibility after they kill these kids. Peat says, “I just want to hold them accountable…” stating that he wants them to be responsible for their acts to try and show it’s more than a game for some people. Also Peeta told the capitol that he and Katniss are married and Katniss is pregnant.  He lied because him and the other tributes are trying to stop the games and he knows that the capitol we be more devastated if Katniss is pregnant because who wants to send a pregnant girl into the games. Peeta says, “If it wasn’t for the baby” to try to stop the games but snow will never cancel the games.

 The tributes hold hands in unity. This is bad because snow wants them to hate each other, to rip out each other’s throats. Haymitch says, “Everyone’s been sent home and they’ve canceled the recap of the interviews on the television”. This shows that the tributes have gotten to the capitol which made snow shut the interviews down because there was so much rebellion.

 Then Cinna defies the capitol by turning Katniss’s wedding dress into a mocking jay. This is the bird know as, “it’s the bird on the pin I wear as a token” but it’s also the symbol for the rebellion. Cinna knows that there’s a rebellion and he has faith in Katniss to lead it.

  Out of all the acts of defiance I would say Cinna’s was the worst. Cinna made Katniss a mocking jay the sign of the rebellion after snow ordered for her to wear her dress. Which is just going to aggravate snow and make things worse so now he’s going to do whatever I takes to stop this and the rebellion.
