In class we are reading Catching Fire and talking about defiance. Defiance is a danger bold resistance to an authority or an opposing force an act that challenges power. Here are some examples from our book.

In Katniss private secession, with the Gamemakers, she hung a dummy with Seneca Crane names on it. The old Gamemaker was killed because Katniss out-smarted him. She’s sending a message- this could be you next. On page 237 Katniss says, “Then I say step away quickly to watch the reaction on the Gamemakers faces as they read the name on the dummy.” SENECA CRANE.

Peeta announces that he and Katniss are married. He’s trying to stop the games. The Capitol Citizens are now against Snow. On page 256 The crowd reacts to his new sends accusations of injustice and barbarism and cruelty flying out in every direction.

During their interviews, they talked trash about Snow and the games. They are turning the Capitol citizens against Snow. The Capitol citizens are demanding change. On page 251 Chaff insist the President could change the Quell if he wanted to but he must not think it matters much to anyone.

Cinna turns the wedding dress that Snow demanded Katniss to wear into a mockingjay. He turned into the symbol of the rebellion. He is promoting the rebellion. On page 253 Katniss wonders, “what has he done something terribly dangerous.” She knows President Snow will not ignore this.

I feel Snow will not find Peeta’s act more defiant because he’s trying to stop the games. He wants people to be against President Snow and his games.
