Cherry Valance has a more realistic outlook on the world. I have come to this conclusion because even though the greasers think the Socs have no worries they do, and they are pressured to have a good education and do the right thing.

Even though the Socs and Greasers are of a different social class both of the groups have troubles and worries that they have to deal with. According to The Outsiders on page34 “Cherry no longer looked sick only sad. “I’ll bet you think the Socs have it made. The rich kids, the west-side Socs. I’ll tell you something, Ponyboy, and it may come to you as a surprise. We have troubles you’ve never even heard of. You want to know something?” She looked me right in the eye. “Things are rough all over.” Every person has worries they have to deal with and this does not exclude the Socs.

The Socs have worries and of those is the pressure to have a good education and do the right thing. According to The Outsiders “ The Socs are viewed as Preppy, clean cut, good kids who follow the rules and are well educated”. This amount of pressure has a bad effect on the Socs, causing them to lash out and take it out on anyone they can.

Some may argue that Cherry Valance does not have the better viewpoint because she is not a greaser. However According to Cherry Valance “things are rough all over” and not just one type of person has problems we all do.

In conclusion, I believe Cherry Valance has a more realistic outlook on the world. Due to her ability to see the bigger picture she sees the situation not from one perspective like ponyboy but from everyone’s.
