The Outsiders
Argument Explanation
Pony boy believes soc's get all the breaks while Cherry
believes things are rough all over. Between the two Ponyboy and Cherry, who has
a more realistic outlook on the world?
I think Cherry Valence has a more realistic outlook on the
world.
When Ponyboy tell's Cherry about what happened to Johnny
Cherry says, "I'll bet you think the Soc's have it made. The rich kids,
the West side Socs. I'll tell you something Ponyboy, and it may come as a surprise.
You want to know something? Things are rough all over.".
I think this quote is very important because it tells that
the Socs don’t get all the breaks its probably as rough with the Greasers as it
is with the Socs.Soc's also have to worry about how well they do in school like," If a soc got bad grades in school they would be punished just for getting one bad grade. That's not even a big part of it, parent also expect perfection and for them to go on to collage and start a career. Socs are also expected to participate in extra-curricular activities like Debate and or Sports.".
"Even if they had their own trouble's, I really
couldn’t imagine what Socs would have to worry about- good grade, good cars,
madras and Mustangs and Corvairs-Man, I thought if I had worries like that I'd
consider myself lucky.".
But Cherry disagrees with him and says," We have
troubles that you cant even think of.".Hearing both sides of this story I still thin Cherry has a much more realistic outlook on the world.
