Pony boy statement is more
realistic because he believes that the socs get all the breaks. On page 36 pony
boy says “even if they did have their own troubles, I really couldn’t see what
socs would have to sweat about- good grades, good cars, good girls, madras and
mustangs and corvairs-Man, I thought, if I had worries like that I’d consider
myself lucky.” The greasers have been through so much economically such as
food, clothes, and bills. Schools is not much a priority to them or either they
can’t afford college. As in the socs, they are upper-class, drive mustangs and
corvairs, their parents can maintain them.
Some may argue that Cherry’s
statement is more realistic because cherry believes “things are rough all over”.
However, the greasers suffer more because the socs can get away with any crime
they do and they don’t have to maintain their family. They actually can go to
school but as in the greasers they can’t afford college and they have to drop
out to maintain their brothers and sisters. The greaser have a tough life
compared to the socs. They struggle economically while the socs are not
worrying about a thing.
