Catching Fire Defiance

In this essay the content holds all the acts of defiance that the characters of the book “Hunger Games Catching Fire have done.

In Katniss’s private session she hung a dummy with Sennaca Crane’s name on it. This is defiant because she is reminding the Gamemaker’s that she outsmarted them. Now that she has everyone’s attention she sees the reactions, on page 138. “He stares steadily at me as the juice from the peach he crushed in his hand runs through his fingers.” She can see that they do not like what she has done.

In Peeta’s private session he painted Rue’s body covered in flowers. Which is defiant because he is reminding the Gamemaker’s that they are responsible for Rue’s death. On page 240 Peeta says “I just wanted to hold them accountable, if only for a moment. For killing that little.” He knows he shouldn’t have painted Rue.

All the tributes held hands in unity at the end of the interviews. Since Snow doesn’t want the tributes to get along it is defiant. On page 258 Katniss notices “Everyone has seen.” Now there is no going back. There is a riot.

Cinna turned the wedding dress that Snow demanded she wore into a Mockingjay. The dress backfired on Snow because it turned into the symbol of rebellion. On page 253 Katniss thinks “what has he done? Something terribly dangerous. An act of defiance in itself .”  She knows that that Snow that Snow will not ignore this.

I feel that the most rebellious is Cinna’s actions because he turned the dress Snow demanded she wore into a rebelling symbol.
