Defiance is an open resistance or bold disobedience. We see
acts of defiance by the characters in the novel Catching Fire.
Katniss
the main character of the novel disobeys President Snow, which irritates him so
he tries to throw his weight around, scaring her yet on page 242 Katniss
replies to Peeta with “I don’t know. To
show them I’m more than just a piece in their games?” After her private
training session where she painted a dummy with Seneca Crane’s name on it.
Peeta,
Katniss’s so called lover by the Capital citizens, asks her why and what she
did, curious of how she defied the game makers and President Snow this time. On
page 242 Peeta says to Katniss “No worse than I did. Why did you do it
anyways?” Questioning her motives of what she did.
The
tributes, who are former victors of the games disobey President Snow by calling
the game names and asking the legality of the games and upsetting the Capital
citizens, on page 250 tributes are sending hidden threats some pen t the
capital such as “Cashmere starts the ball rolling with a speech of how much the
people in the capital must be suffering because they will lose us.” Sending the
crowd into a slight uproar that at least Ceasar could calm down.
Cinna,
Katniss’s stylist defies President Snow by making Katniss into a mocking jay
which in the capital in the citizens eyes is simply a symbol of love in the districts eyes it is
more than that it is a symbol of rebellion. On page 293 Katniss thinks “What is
he doing something terribly dangerous.” She’s worried because though it’s
simple President Snow will not ignore this.
I feel
President Snow would be irritable most of the Tributes because they would send
basically the one district that he believed the wouldn’t go against him turn on
him because of their words, in fact when Peeta was talking to them during the
interviews the citizens were freaking out because they truly believed Katiss
was pregnant so they went into an uproar the even Ceasar couldn’t calm. So I believe
that he would be most upset by the tributes doing than every other act of defiance
here.
