In the book, “Catching Fire” there
are a lot of acts, of defiance are Katniss hanging a dummy. Peeta for painting
Rue. The tributes for joining together. Last but not least Cinna for the dress.
In Katniss’s private session she
hung a dummy with Seneca Cranes name on it. She did this because she is
reminding the game makers that she out smarted them. Also it could be a threat
because she caused the death of his death. Some text evidence is on page 241
“After a moment of disbelief, all the disapproval in the room hits me like a
ton of bricks.” And on page 242 “I don’t know. To show them that I’m more than
just a piece in their games?” these show the feelings of other and their
reactions. Also Katniss knows that they are not happy with her and that they
are worried.
In Peeta’s private session he
painted Rue covered in flowers from the first games. He is reminding the game makers
that they are responsible for Rue’s death. Also he is showing respect for
another tribute which Snow does not want that. Some evidence is on page 240 “I’m
not sure. I just wanted to hold them accountable, if only for a moment. For killing
that little girl.” And Katniss says “But
even though it worries me, I think what he did was amazing.” Katniss was worried but she knew that he was
tired of the capitol/government killing innocent people.
At the end of the interviews, all of
the tributes held hands in unity. Snow does not want the tributes to get along.
He wants them to be enemies. The games won’t be fun if they get along. Some textual
evidence is on page 258 “you can see the realization of this as the screens
begin to pop into blackness.” And “in the confusion they didn’t cut us off in
time. Everyone has seen.” The capitol is trying to hide them because everyone
is coming together in an amazing way.
At the interviews Cinna turned the
wedding dress that snow demanded Katniss wear into a mocking jay. The dress
backfired on President Snow because it turned into a symbol of rebellion. Some evidence
is on page 253 Katniss thinks, “What has he done? Something terribly dangerous.
An act of defiance in itself.” She knows that Snow will not ignore this.
President Snow will fid that the
tributes holding hands is the most defiant. This is because it was on public
T.V. and it goes against everything snow believes in about the games.
