Catching Fire

                                  CATCHING FIRE

In the book, Catching Fire, it talks about defiance. Defiance is a daring or bold resistance to authority or an opposing force; an act that challenges power.

One act of defiance is on page 236. Katniss was in a private session with the GameMakers and thought, “Don’t you know how much I hate you?“  She was thinking about the GameMakers. During her private session with the GameMakers, she got an idea. She hung up a dummy and wrote Seneca Cranes name on it.

The second act of defiance is on page 240. Peeta was in his private training session. He painted a picture of Rue’s body covered in flowers from the last games. It’s defiant because he is reminding the GameMakers that they killed a little girl. He is treating Rue with respect and president snow doesn’t want that.

The third act of defiance is on page 251. Chaff insists, “The president could change the Quell if he wanted to, but he must not think it matters to anyone.” They talk about more bad things towards President Snow. This is defiant because they are turning the capitol citizens against Snow. The capitol citizens are demanding change.

The last but not least act of defiance is on page 253. Katniss wonders, “What has he done? Something terribly dangerous.” Cinna had turned her dress into the symbol of the rebellion. He is promoting the rebel cause. He made the wedding dress that snow demanded she wear, into a mockingjay.

I feel that president snow would find Katniss’s act the most defiant. I feel that way because Katniss was the reason of the rebellion in the first place. Also because of hanging up the dummy with Seneca Cranes name on it. She’s basically telling the capitol that shes done with all the lies, and this could be you next.
