In class we are reading
catching fire and talking about defiance. Defiance is a daring or bold
resistance to authority or an opposing force; an act that challenges power.
On page 236-237 Katniss in her
private session with the game makers. She hung a dummy with Seneca Crane. The
old game maker was killed because Katniss out smarted him. She is sending a
message that he could be next. On page 236, “Do you have any idea how much I
hate you? You who have given your talents to the game.”
On page 204 in Peeta’s private
training session he painted a picture of Rue’s body covered in flowers from the
last game. He is reminding the game makers that they killed the little girl. He
is treating Rue with respect and snow didn’t want that. On page 256, the
capitol reacts. “Even the most capitol loving, blood thirsty person can’t
ignore… how horrible the whole thing is.”
During the tributes interviews
they talk trash about snow and the games. They said snow could stop the games if
he really wanted to. They are turning the capitol citizens against president
snow. The capitol citizens are demanding a change. On page 251, Chaff insist
“the president could change the Quell if he wanted to but he must not think it
matters much to anyone”.
Cinna turns the wedding dress
that snow demanded Katniss wear, into a mocking jay. He turned her into a
symbol of rebellion. He was promoting the rebel cause. On page 253, Katniss wonders
“what has he done? Something terribly dangerous.” She knows president snow will
not ignore this.
In conclusion I think Katniss is
the most defiant because snow is already out to kill her and she is always in
or causing trouble.
