Defiance
is an act that is an opposing force. In short it means to go against something.
In the book, Catching Fire, there are many acts of defiance. Here are 4 ways of
defiance in the book.
On page 242 of Catching Fire during
Katniss has here private session hung a dummy of Senieca Crane. Katniss did it
to “show them that I’m more than a piece in there games.” This shows she’s done
letting the Game makers and Snow control her. She wants to remind Snow that she
beat the system last year.
Another act of defiance was when Peeta
painted Rue’s body covered in flowers from his 1st games. This was
on pg. 240. In the book it says” Actually, I painted a picture of Rue, Peeta
says”. This is an act of defiance because he is reminding Snow and the Game
makers they are responsible for her death in the last games.
Another example of defiance was when the
tributes from each district held hands in unity. This was on page 258 it says,”
Up and down the row, the victors began to join hands”. This was meant to be an
act of defiance because Snow wants the tributes to be enemies. The capital sees
them as humans not a piece in there games.
The 3rd act of defiance was when
Cinna turned the beautiful wedding dress, Snow picked out, and turned it into a
mocking jay. He made the dress by adding wings and when she turns around she
turn on fire. He did that because last year she was the girl on fire. This is
an act of defiance because the dress back fired on the capital. This was on
page 252 and it says,” I lift my long, flowing sleeves into the air, and that’s
when I see myself on the television screen. Clothed in black except for the
white patches on my sleeves. Or should I say wings. Because Cinna has turned me
into a mocking jay.”
In
conclusion I think the most defiant act in these 4 was when the tributes held
hands in unity. This is the most defiant because they have enjoyed seeing tem
kill each other in the games. No the citizens see that they should stop the
Games
